Software to use with Layla 24

Hi all. This is my first post here, so I'm hoping I can get some help.
What I'm tring to do is record drums, 8 channels at once, into my computer (Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 160 and 120 GB hard drives).
I'm looking at the Echo Layla 24 (right now on MF for $499) because it seems to be an awesome deal!
I've read the discussions about drivers (WDM, ASIO) and am a little confused by it.
First of all, does anyone know what, if any, software is included with the Layla 24? And what compatibility issues are known with it?
If I need to buy a software program seperately, what should I get?
I've used Cool Edit Pro before. I read somewhere that it was included with Layla.
Any thoughts on this is greatly appreciated!!
Mike.

Layla24 has ASIO and WDM drivers...EchoAudio's ASIO drivers are far superior, I have an old Gina20 (still sitting in the box to sell) and the ASIO WAY outperformed the WDM, which is usually the case. EchoAudio worked very closely with Steinberg in the development of ASIO and their products work together very well, so Cubase might be a good choice for you. That said, Sonar now support ASIO as well.

If you are looking at less expensive apps, MultitrackStudio is nice and a few others as well.

Hi December,
The cooledit that comes with the Layla (Which is now adobe) is a stripped down version of the regular one. I have the layla card you are looking at, and its always performed well for me.

I am selling it here pretty soon for the emu 1820m. Is that a used one you are looking at at 499.00?

The Layla 24 on Musicians Friend is $499 NEW. They say it's in stock. I don't think I can pass this deal up!
