PC and Mac file compatibility

Does anyone know if you can burn aiff files on a data disc with a macintosh computer and then load that disc on a windows xp computer. See, my bass player has a mac pro tools setup but I want to take the mixes in 24 bit and possibly master them on my home computer with wavelab. Also I was wondering if I could take plug-ins from my pc and load them to pro tools. I would just try it but I'm not exactly eager to waste blank cds. If anyone can help I'd be really gratefull

In theory, yes, but I can't be sure, since I rarely work with Macs. One sure fire way to find out. Sacrifice a disk and try.

thanks db, that's what I'll probably do but I'll have to dither and convert to 16 bit and if it works I'll eventually by a soundcard so that my computer's 24/96 compatible

If you're talking about a CD, AIFF is just another file type. Macs generally burn CDs in Mac and PC format so they can be read on either.

When you burn it on the mac, just make sure you add the three letter pc file extension to the file name (not sure off the top of my head what that is... look at the properties of a similair file on the pc).

If you can access the file on the PC but your app can't open it, then the problem has to do with file compatibility between the two sound apps.

OH ya Mike, I forgot about the pluggins question. No you cant use pluggins that are for PC type Programs in ProTools. They use a proprietary pluggin called TDM and nothing else. A bit snooty if ya ask me but its the program and that is how they choose to run it.
