help! need software advice

In the past I have been using the free version of protools. I only record audio (acoustic guitar, vocals, etc.) I have two mics that run through a tiny board one panned hard right and the other hard left. That is how I would designate the input on pro tools by choosing the left or right channel. Now...

I just got a new machine that has windows xp that won't run the free version of protools. I tried a couple of other programs (kristal & audacity) but neither program seem to give me the right/left channel option, only line in. I can get a signal but it seems to be both mics recording simultaniously on one track.

Can anyone please give me some advice on what I should do?
Thank you!

Kristal does have panning...beyond that there are some low-cost options such as Tracktion and MultitrackStudio

Thank you for the quick reply. I tried panning the track to the left or right while recording, and it doesn't seem to work. It only gives me one option as far as sound input and I haven't been able to record more than one track simultaneously. How do you enable more than one track?
Thank you
