Cakewalk sound problem

Hi, I use Cakewalk Guitar tracks version 2.

For the last 4 or 5 months I have been using this program and it worked perfectly fine.
One day a couple of weeks ago play back totally stopped and nothing can be seen in the levels when you play tracks. The funny thing is when I use the scrub tool to go over tracks and listen to them I can hear them, except none of the effects and settings ive put on them through the mixing panel can be heard, just what was recorded and destructivly edited (I think the scrub tool may do that anyway, I havent used it in a while because it didnt work)

Can anyone help and tell me how to get play back back to normal?.
