what should you look for in a mixing board for a home studio... should you get one with onboard efx or get a processor? (i know most people probably already know this but i'm new) thanx

low line noise.. nothing is more frustrating than line noise.

and with whatever boards you look at.. make sure they have all the inputs and outputs that you need.

any quality mixers should provide you with aux sends/returns, fx sends/returns, eq, and phantom power for your mics.

as for whether or not to look for one with fxs.. i have a behringer 1804x.. and it has a built in processor.. but i honestly do all my fxs either on the comp or with other hardware.

its late and im sure i missed some stuff but thats a general breakdown on it. id check out the behringer line for sure. youll most likely find what you need and will be happy with their prices.

I think collapse pretty well covered it, the only thing I would add is if you get one with onboard FX (I just ordered one) see how they are set up and what the possible configs are, if they can be pre or post and things like that. (that is pre or post fader)

And like collapse said, make sure you have enough channels in and enough busses out to do the job you want it to.

Right now is a great time to buy a Behringer, as stated in a previous post, click here service.bfast.com/bfast/c...=homepage_image and right at the top of the home page is a link to a Behringer sale, you can get most any config you need for a pretty good savings...

If you are going to record multiple tracks at one time you should look for a mixer with individual outputs and "Tape" inputs on each channel. I checked out several different mixers before I bought mine (Behringer, Mackie, ect...) and for line noise, preamp quality, and overall flexibility, I found The Alesis Studio 32 the best in my price range. It goes for $699 on MF or around $350-450 used on Ebay.

You can buy the Studio 32 here if you are interested:

It does better than their old mixer, the 1622, I had that for a while...what a piece of crap that was...

Definetely. I almost bypassed Alesis all together because of hearing a 1622 that my friend has. Fortunately the new ones have the new style preamps and cleaner electronics.

Interesting, I might have to give it a listen sometime...I love most of Alesis' stuff, I have one of their referecne amps and I have used or heard many of their effects units, but that one mixer and their near field monitors really disappointed me.

Thanks for the info, I will have to check them out sometime...
