Hey everyone. I was just looking for some recomendations for some mic pre-amps. What would be the best ones for me to get if I was recording acoustic, sometimes full band, elliott smith type folk/pop?

I take it you will want to have at least stereo? Do you have a price range? Mic preamps can get pretty pricey.

If you are looking at the Digi002 (which as I recall you are, though I may have you mistaken with someone else) why look for pres as the 002 has 4 pres, try those first.

Yeah, If you want to keep it under $200 then I would recommend the ART TPS II for $180. If you are willing to spend more then you could take a look at the Focusrite or the higher end PreSonus stuff. If you can spare over $1,000 then get an Avalon or something... (Not that I would know anything about it!)

I use the pod fx as a pre-amp! They have a tube amp emulator which does just fine. But I would love to check out some of these expensive preamps some day. Grrrr..

The aphex 207 is an amazing mic pre. Its 2 channel tube, very discreet pre. Used to list for 650, but Musicians feind is blowin them out at 199.00 which is dirt. I got mine at cost from work and paid 330.00 bones for it. :(

anyway, it has had some great reviews, and it sounds unbelievable on acoustic guitar, especially with stereo miking. I really google reviews till I sweat when I am looking to buy something. You have to take reviews with a grain of salt sometimes though.

Aphex is all buil;t here in So.Cal., and has a great track record for being top notch, and you can even find the 107, its predecessor on ebay usedfor real cheap. That model is still a great piece.
