I got myself "A Camel" over the weekend. What a kick butt little practice amp. I love it. And the little thing can power a 4x12 cab too!

Apr 21, 2004 04:39 pm there is a band in detroit (can't remember their name) that recorded their whole (or maybe most) of their latest album with these cigarette pack amps. I used one and thought it sounded pretty good if you want an overdrive type of sound. That band is just a couple of guitarists and a drummer. I think they play the lazy blues or something like it.

Apr 22, 2004 07:49 am I used to plug a mandolin into one of those little pignose amps and funk it out sometimes... for some reason little amps are so fun. :)

Apr 22, 2004 08:53 am wow, when i was in the detroit area, i fixed up a guy's 64 vibrolux, he gave me 20$ and one of these little cig box amps. I thought someone local had just done one up for the fun of it and was giving them out. He told me you could run it as an effects box, into an amp. I haven't tried it into a speaker cab yet. . . . hmmmm

Apr 25, 2004 08:00 pm I as well bought one of the polycarbonate for Tuna, my son who is just starting to play. And I also emailed them for info on sending them cig hardpacks as they are in danger of not being able to build them from running out of the packs to do so. As they do not buy new packs, they use recycled cig packs to do so that are traded or donated. They have a program that will allow you to trade your empty uncrushed packs toward purchasing their new gear. I am jumping on that wagon for sure.
Watch for a post about this in the taling smack forum.
Apr 25, 2004 08:45 pm Sweet, I know a couple dudes that I could collect packs from...maybe I could get enough to get an amp to give away as a prize here or something...

Apr 25, 2004 08:59 pm OK, what was I thinking. I will post the link in the gear gab section.
Apr 27, 2004 07:40 pm I heard of that detroit band too. They used two amps for that CD, a fender showman and a cigarette pack amp.

Apr 27, 2004 10:04 pm And as dB posted above, that little thing can runa 4x12 loud as all get out. And not a half bad sound wither if your into that gritty overdrive sound. I liked it myself and think I could find some uses for it.

May 20, 2004 08:47 am while putzing around in the studio last night, i plugged my smokey into my 2x10 bass cab.
Holy Cows! This thing really puts out sound for a little 9v battery. I actually didn't play full out due to it's volume (and the neighbors at 9:30-10:00)
Very cool. I'm gonna keep this little guy handy on my deck.
I was also playing through smokey into my DAW and the sound coming in is very distorted, moreso than just into the speaker cab.
I've been trying to get cig packs together but people aren't very receptive (I quit 2 years ago). I'll keep trying.
May 20, 2004 08:53 am Yeah, I am trying to get some together too, I haven't smoked for many years, I know many people that do, but they think I'm weird for wanting them for an amp :-)
I used the smokie in a 4x12 cab and ya, it's quite outstanding...
