Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to MIDI. I have trouble with some basic setup problem. My computer has an Audigy 2 soundcard and I collected a few bank of soundfonts and notated some music using Cakewalk Overture. The MIDI plays fine with the speaker connected directly to the computer. However, when I connected the computer to an external mixer, some instruments play OK, some very faint, and some not at all. I basically just connected the speaker-out from the soundcard to the mixer, did I use the wrong cable or do I need to plug it into a specific plugs of the mixer? What can the problem be? A friend of mine who knows a little bit more about mixers could nto solve the problem either. Sorry if the explanation is unclear because I don't know the hardware aspects of the problem enough. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Apr 19, 2004 01:12 pm Hmmm, it doesn't sound like it's a problem with the soundfonts or the software, but rather with a connection from the soundcard, or possibly the mixer itself. What kind of cable are you using, and are there any converters (1/8" to 1/4" perhaps)? Does your mixer work ok when running it from another source.
Maybe you can try running an mp3 or something through the soundcard to the mixer instead of your compositions and see how it works, so you can try to isolate the problem for sure.

Yes, there's an adapter of 1/8" to 1/4". The mixer was working before I tried it. I will try your suggestion of playing some mp3 through it. What puzzles me most is why some instruments play perfectly ok while others don't? Thanks.

Apr 19, 2004 03:02 pm Hmm, the only other thing off the top of my head is that maybe your eq settings on the mixer are funky?
Apr 19, 2004 03:49 pm I did not adjust the equalizer. I'll try to disable the equalizer tonight. At least you've given me some ideas as to where to look for. Thanks.
Apr 19, 2004 11:28 pm coolo,
I've fixed it. It's the cable. I changed the cable tonight and everything works fine. Thanks for your input.
