Hey Ya'll. I've been visiting HRC for awhile now and have yet to give any links to my music. what can I say, I'm a kinda shy guy. anyway I'm intrested in what ya'll think. I've got to warn you though, some lyrics are pretty explicit, so if your're under age or have a weak heart, you may want hold off. I've listened to a few, tracks from some of the members, and can't seem to find anyone within my particular genre. Anyway, I'm not worried about lyrical content critics. most lyrics are by other artists. I am more intrested in overal engineering/production advice. Well, here goes... www.nowhereradio.com/illsound/singles

let me have it!

IllSound - cool, good work!

i love the kinda unplugged rap thing you got going on with 'only time' - bongos, guitar and vox - awesome! makes me wanna go rip it off, though i wouldnt do such a good job. top one man!

it dont matta is more like the hip hop sound im used to, but the bass stands out as something fresh especially - to me at least. dunno about the casio keyboard kinda sound...but its well executed whatever.

got me's pretty cool too. i like the way the vocals kinda stutter at the start, and the way the actual track fades in. its cool man, though again the key sounds are a little, ermm, familiar, to my ears. they make this song a good track ratehr than an awesome track IMO.

but hey, dont take this rong, its ace, love it. these are just lil things. more stuff like the first track would make my year...

keep it up!

Sounds good! "Only Time" has got a raw feel to it. Raw as in "street"...you know what I mean?

Cool, happy to have more people posting hip hop tracks on here. It's kinda an under represented genre here.

Anyhow, I'm listening on lofi stream. On only time the bongos are real strong and I'm having a tougher time hearing the vocals and even the snare. I think if that synth lead was louder that would help too. The beat overall, as an arrangement, is cool though. Some of the vocals are louder than others (noticeable by verse). The cat doing the chorus sounds like he's trying to be like pac. I only say that cuz I've been teased about that in the past.

I agree with flame on it don't matta, as far as some of the synth sounds being a bit can (mostly the trumpet). I like the melodies and it sounds cool, but if you could use the same melody, but switch up the sound it would definitely add to the song. That bass kick you got punches right through. The rappers on this one kinda sound like Nappy Roots.

On Got me, the beat is too slow to rap regular over, in my opinion. You almost have to rap double time over this beat. Once again the kick drum is sharp. I can't really hear any of the melodies on this one very well, and I think there is a bit much reverb on the vocals for my taste.

Do you make the beats for these tracks or do you do any of the rapping? Overall, the beats are all cool. But if you made some small tweaks here and there you could have some ill tracks. Oh, and I found out pretty quick, you gotta get over your shyness if you're trying to make a splash in hip hop. There's too many cats happy to try and take your opportunity away from you.

Thanks for the feedback ya'll. I know what ya'll mean about some of the sounds I use. Most of my instruments are coming from my roland xp60. The Keyboard has some cool sounds, but I haven't figured out how to use them midi. when the keyboard's not in general midi mode, it only plays one sound and the sound selected receives from all my midi channels (1-16). the only way to get one channel/one sound is to use the GM and these sounds, though better than the ones on my soundcard, are just GM sounds. Anybody know about the Roland XP series? I've heard some people talking about sound fonts and I think my soundcard supports them. as Flame would say, I think I'll give them a go.

Coolo, as far as "Got Me" being to slow, you know how us country boys like to "screw" things.) it actually started out at 76bpm and got pitch dropped. and I'm producer full time, rapper part time, mainly when the folks I'm getting down with aren't rapping. I'd much rather be in the background though.

anyway, I think I'm getting over my shyness. none of the guys I produce for has gotten booed of the stage yet, and I've heard a coupla' our songs being bumped at the carwash on the weekend. there's nothing like seeing someone else enjoy your music.

well back to the drawing board.

That's funny. When I heard Got me, I thought it sounded like this album I had gotten a long time ago that was called Texas Chronic Click, Chopped Throwed and Screwed, that was a compilation and basically just did that pitch drop thing to all the songs. Funny thing is, most of the groups were actually from Cali, not TX.

Anyways, as far as soundfonts go, you can use them if you have a soundblaster card, and I think there are some free vst players out there as well (but I don't know how to use them). There are some good to decent soundfonts out there as well as some very cheesy/bad ones. Just look around. I actually use soundfonts in a lot of my production. But I'm sure the XP-60 probably has a ton of good sounds in it, if you can figure it out.

The fat one always watches us.
