If you have the current upgrade to the firmware in your POD 2.0 you will be able to get very close to what is there in the Dm4. I just traded off my POD version 1 for the POD XT and am very impressed as it has the entire Dm4 allready in it, as well as their other floor modeler's. If you havent thought about it, your money might be more wisely spent in trading in the 2.0 for the XT as everything is allready in one box so to speak.

Just a thought.

But that said, yes indeed the Dm4 is one hell of a good modeler. If you are seeking a huge range of differant pedals in one box that is the best investment you can make.

whats this about updating firmware? i thought the pod 2 was pretty much abandoned by line6 with the arrival of the xt. you're saying there's a way to update its innards?

Naw, they just abandoned the regular POD. But they really didnt abandon it at all. You can still get stuff for it.

The update that is available for the POD 2.0 will actually need a new e-prom installed to accept the flash update. Not sure of the cost, but it does add, and fix some of the problems or limitations.

Just a side not forty. I aced my POD version 1.0 and picked up an XT. Updated the firmware and drivers and I now am kicking my self in the butt for not doing it sooner. It is an entirely differant animal from the POD or POD 2.0. I plugged in after the update and didnt shut it down till about 3:00AM after I got it done. Even before I flashed it with the new firmware I was impressed, and it was only the first version release when I got it. It is now at version 1.05 and is set to never be outdated as it can now be flashed to be updated with all the new goodies. I highly recomend one.

And as a nother side note, they have a new beta version of Line 6 Edit which is like the editer librarian you gave a link to awhile ago. It is absolutely fantastic, and it also works with the versioin 2.0 as well.

i'm having a hard time understanding this--i'm sorry.

what's an e-prom? installing this will do what to my 2.0? i really want an xt but there's no way i can do that for a while yet. will it magically transform my 2.0 into an xt? please yes!

so it looks like youre saying you bought an xt and THEN updated the xt to current version? or you updated your 1.0?

i would update my 2.0 if the changes were worth it. new cabinets, fixed high end perhaps. bonuses like mic types or something. everything else i'm happy with.

ah, i see. it says here i cannot update my pod so it has extra capabilities. its internal architecture is completely different from the xt--i knew it!

do you know what limitations the 2.0 firmware corrects?

this line6 edit looks cool. it was buried on their site--no wonder i've never heard of it! i'll check that out.

The Podxt looks awesome. Does anyone around here use it and like how it sounds?

rightside, I just picked one up and love it. I was using the very first POD untill a couple of weeks ago and am kicking myself for not upgrading sooner. It is a huge differance in sound as well as amp models. It is much more refined as well. You can now edit everything right from the screen on the front panel without having to dive in via midi, nothing is hidden at all.

Forty, indeed you might be better off waiting. I am not sure on the price of the new chip, the eprom is just a programable chip that is the brain of the unit. The original 2.0 chip wouldnt except the firmware update from my understanding so they have a modified chip which will. But again price may make you wait. And truthfully I would wait. Having played on a 2.0 as well, the XT is a huge step forward as well as it is now set to be completely updated via firmware/software for a very long time so new hardware will not be needed for a long time as well.
