Hi guys. Im new here. I got a question to ask. I'm useing Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for audio sequencing with the audiophile 24/96 card. Im thinkng of getting the Behringer MX2004A Eurorack Mixer and was wondering if i can use this to do the final mixing of my projects. Basically, can I transfer the tracks in cool edit to the mixer where i can mix them and use the equalizing fearures and then, send them back to cool edit for mixdown? Thanks.

Hey there, Welcome to HRC.

Ummmm, no, I use the 2496 as well (what a kickin card, eh?) but you are limited to only two tracks out (4 if you use S/PDIF) so you could only run two channels back to your mixer for mixing. You can however, send a couple of single tracks out to the mixer if you want to further process them with some outboard gear that you have.

In your situation you are really best of doing the mixing on the PC, unless you upgrade to something like the M-Audio Delta 1010 which has 10 outs, you could then send 10 channels back to the mixer.

Also consider that even if you could send the channels back to the mixer, you have a chance of introducing noise doing so, since you are leaving the digital realm and entering the analog realm in the mixer.

Unless I am missing something, those are pretty much all your options.

wait, what do you mean by " You can however, send a couple of single tracks out to the mixer if you want to further process them with some outboard gear that you have." What kind of outboard gear are you talkin about?

For example, if you totally dig a particular reverb unit you have or something like that, you could run the vocal track (for example) out of one of the Audiophile outs into the mixer, run it through an aux loops using the reverb, then back into the Audiophile to mix in Cool Edit.

It just one example, but it should give you an idea of what I mean. I try to do everything on the PC just because then it keeps it all in the digital domain.
