I´m new to this computerbased recording. Bought an MIA Midi audiocard. I drive an Alesis 16 channel mixer into it. I play instrumental music i.e. real guitars, bass, drums etc. I use Cubase VST 5.1. I want some input and opinions on the audiocard and also what equipment is best used with it. I DON´T use MIDI. Thanks.

The Mia is a very nice card. 2 pair of 1/4" analog I/O and s/pdif 2 channel I/O. And you can use both the analog and s/pdif at the same time, although it sounds as though you wont be using the digital in right now. But it is there for the future. On board midi is nice if the time arises that you wish to hook up a controller and play keys with any of your tracks.

As long as you dont plan on recording more then 2 channels of analog at the same time you will be fine with this card. The latency is very good and the software interface is easy to use to set the card up.

As far as equipment, all you need is 4 good cables to get back and forth from the card to youir mixer and your all set. If the board has balanced out as the card does then go this route as it will keep noise levels down if you have any electronic interferance in the room.

Cubase, Nuendo and Cakewalk are all good working apps with the card as well, and as long as you run the ASIO drivers you will be just fine.

If you have any other questions feel free to post em here.

And welcome to HRC.

Only one warning about the Echo cards is they do not play friendly if you have a VIA chipset on your motherboard, something Echo fails to put in there tech and sales stuff. And you usually have to find out the hard way when the card doesnt function proper.

Otherwise exelant card indeed, good audio quality and the like.
