New problem

Just can't find any good help these days! Sam (incumbant feline studio owner) continues to bat my faders around and intermittently stomp on PFL switches. And now the latest arrival Lucy Goose (couple months old...all eyes and ears) likes to chase the curser on the screen and bat at it! Getting hard to read posts with all the nose smears and paw prints! If only my clients knew who really did the mix!

why don't you not allow the pets into the room? I don't let my dog into my bedroom/studio because he likes to chew on cables

all that hair getting into your faders can't help much either...

There's a spray they sell at Petco that repels cats and dogs... It's harmless to them, they just don't care for the smell. You could spray a towel or two with it and place them under your keyboard and mixer... That might cut down on their visits a little without locking them out of the room. I speak as a cat owner myself, though I've never used the stuff.

For some reason my cat really likes it when I sing and will come into the room and contribute her meows to the vocal track. I'm not sure if I should be flattered or offended...

My dog hides when I sing...I'm definitely offended.

I usually record some of my tracks in a closet that was converted into a makeshift studio. Unless I shut both the outer den door and the closet door, my cat reaches underneath the closet door and grabs it with his paw, and rattles it back and forth in the door frame HARD. Wham!Wham!Wham!Wham! "meeeeeowwwwww?" Wham!Wham!Wham!Wham! He hates being shut out of anywhere.

There are two shelties (shetland sheepdogs) in our house... they are both amazingly afraid of loud noises. Whenever I play my didgeridoo, the bigger one cowers under the coffee table, whining. Needless to say, I try to keep that to a minimum when she's in the house.

Oh God guys, that's a stich! I can just see the cat rattling the door! Murphy (GRHS) used to try climb up on my lap, howl and try to cover the holes in my harmonica when I played it. Definately not a complement! His ears would be flattened and you could just see him trying to say "Please stop that!" as he pressed his nose against mine.

lol, the complications of pet ownership in the home studio :-D

My dog is a very quiet little fellow, one of the seen-and-not-heard variety that I appreciate so much. that is, except, when he hears my wife coming home. The garage door opening is his cue to go totally batshit and run laps around the house yelping, barking, whining. Seeing as how I try to do most of my recording when nobody's home, this is my official cue that my session has expired. Sometimes I'm in the middle of a take and it really irritates me to capture his lunatic ravings along with mine...so if you ever hear a feint sound of a dog in any of my recordings, you'll know why ;)

now, we're dog-sitting our dog-in-law for my wife's parents and the senile old fart likes to stare into space and bark at nothing for no reason. also a pleasure to have a take interrupted by that!

I am glad I have no hairey pets in the house. Although we used to have hairey pets. Now we stick to the Non-hairey variety. We will be aquireing a new bearded dragon at the end of April, I just hope he grows up to be like his predisesor was, a very friendly sole who acted more like a cat then a 20" lizard.

The only thing hairey in this house now are the boyz who are both letting the hair grow long. Funny thing is I think it is great and wonder why my parents hated it so.
