Flowing tracks when burning a CD...

hey all...I'm new to the forum. I am working on a CD and I have a question about something someone might be able to help me with...

I own some professionally made CD's which there is no standard 3-second delay between the tracks on the CD. I was wondering if it's possible for me to do this so that I can compose a long, connected piece which I can break into several tracks but if you listen through the CD straight through, you won't notice any delay or breaks within the album. Could anyone help me? (ie. What kind of software supports this task?)

If you are curious as to know what burning software I use, it's a "prehistoric" software that came with my HP called Easy CD Creator...not sure of what version. (I would check, but I'm at school right now and don't have the properties to look at off hand.) It's no later than the year 1999...

Thanks!

Well, for starters, welcome to HRC!

The standard gap is two seconds, not three, but thats a side issue. I know the actually software of which you speak, I think I still have a copy myself. One way this can be done, is in a wave editor (I use WaveLab, Sound Forge works as well as many others) you make your songs files into what essentially is one long file, and it gets saved as one big ol' file. In that file you can place markers throughout the file to tell the CD player when to change the track number and space out between them as much or as little as your want.

It's in the Gear Bag section. It's quite expensive, but it is THE BOMB!

once you have it split into the different tracks, in nero burning rom, tracks are automatically given 2 seconds of silence. you can select the songs and change it to zero seconds.

But then that would set every song to 0, correct?

not really, you can pick and choose which songs you want the change the gap on, except the first song, it always has to have the 2 seconds before it.

well maybe not 2 seconds, but it can't be set to zero.

Indy_Dave (or anyone), how do you change that setting exactly? I've got Nero too, and never saw where to do that. Thanks!

alright, once all the tracks are in the program they are displayed on the left-hand side. in the row of each song you'll see that it says "2" which is how many seconds the gap is. highlight all but the first song, right click and go to properties. from here i can't remember exactly but there should be a box that says something about the silence on whatever window pops up. just change the 2 to a zero, or whatever you want.

Hey, I still use Easy CD Creator. Anyhow, to do what you want to do, you will need a wav editor (I think there is a free one or two in the links page here). If you have one long piece, highlight the first part of the song, however long you want the first track to be, cut and paste this part to a new file and save it. Then repeat this process until you have just the last track. Open Easy CD Creator, add all the tracks in the proper order and then click on the "Create CD button". A CD creation setup screen will pop up and then you should click the Advanced button. Under the write method, check Disc At Once and that will eliminate the 2 second silence between tracks. I've done this before overlapping CD tracks in my wave editor so that the CD sounded like a DJ mix CD. It can be pretty cool. I'm using Easy CD Creator 4 by the way.

Also of note you can edit the start and stop times as well. It can be done in Easy CD creator as well as in Nero I beleive. I like dB usually dont do it that way as I use WaveLab and SoundForge as well fo setting the burn up when doing a disc like that.

In Easy CD you simply add your track in, then right click on the first track you wish to fade into the next track and then select transition effeects, set the transition time and your off. You do this to set the gap time as well. And this can be applied gloabally for all tracks or just to certain tracks. You can also set the gap time there as well.

I have never used that tool in Nero, But I beleive it is somewhat similar.
