i want to buy a new mixing bored after i get my tax returns. i am currently recording through a mackie 1604 into an alesis hd24. i am very happy with my mackie right now it is only set up 8 tracks out to recorder and 8 from recorder to mixer for monitor. i usualy use no more than 16 tracks on purpose just so i can play them all back, which involves repatching(i still havent tried using a patch bay even though it seems so simple).
i was considering a behringer mx 2442a for mixing and playback so i will not have to repatch anything ever. i have read several threads criticizing the preamps on the behringer but i will not be using them. i will be recording through the mackie and i will just be using the line outs from my HD24 to the line inputs on the behringer. at $550 I think this would be cheaper than trading in my 1604 for a 3208.

Probably a lot better off looking at the MX9000 service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear considering your needs...at least it's another option.

the mx9000 is over twice as much as 2 mx2442s. i would have to sell me mackie. and in theory the 2 behringers have the same channel strips.the only big differance is being able to toggle between the A/B 24 for recoding and 24 for playback but the B channels dont offer as much flexability as the A channels, and the mx9000 has the meter bridge. so how much quality would i lose going from the mackie preamps to the behringer preamps. that is the main reason i am considering buying a behringer- so i can still record through my mackie. but if there is realy no differance then why does a mackie cost 3 times more??

Because it is named Mackie. The benifit of the MX-9000 is it does have better pre's and it also has 8 sub channels out as well. I have owned both the mackie and still own a Behringer and for the most part the pre's are not really that much differant. Maybe to a machine, but not the normal ear. Remember that on the MX2442 you will only have 16 mono channels and 4 stereo channels which coes indeed give a total of 24 inputs, as well as being able to use the 4 aux returns as inputs as well. And if you watch the 9000 does go on sale as well as the 2442.

But I will give the 2442 a one up as it has all its I/O jacks right on the top for easy reach, and the 9000 has everything behind the meter bridge so it is not easily accesable if you might need to repatch anything.

im gonna look into the mx9000 alot more. the 4 band sweepable EQ looks to be an advantage as does the meter bridge. now i just need to look up the outputs and inserts. next problem would be what to do about the giant space in my rack where a 1604 was.
