Now I am working on trumpet and trombone of ska band, they play simply, the same notes, sometimes with intervals. Maybe somebody tried similar and can suggest about panning and eq., also maybe reverb, chorus or some warming effects. Thanks.

Edvo,

I keep it simple. I pan them where I want them in the group. The only eq I use is to flatten the response of the mic. As for the rest, your preference. Per warming, personaly I do not warm brass. I prefer the natural "cutting" sound.

I think brass really depends on the style of music. I haven't worked with too much brass, but have noticed, that a simple delay sounds really neat. I think for ska, I would go very easy on the reverb delay and get more of that gritty sound. Anything that is more drawn out or more orchestral sounding I think sounds nice with a fair amount of good reverb. Eqing will depend a somewhat on what type of horn you're dealing with, but as always I think the key is to experiment.

Edvo, I agree with Walt on keeping it as natural as you can. As coolo said, a nice warm room reverb used very lightly will give the horns a bit more space. I too like the cutting sounds of the higher end of the horns, even trombone has some. You could try a bit of chorus on the trombone, but again keep it very light in depth as too much will only make it hard to sit it in the mix proper. If you have a pluggin that will give the choice of voices for chorus effect I would opt for a nice 4 voice as it will give a shimmer and still be able to sit back without being over bearing. It will also give the illusion of being a bigger horn section.

Thanks for answers. I still did not try reverbs or choruses, but I tried to mix horns by adjusting eq knobs of Samplitude's virtual mixer.
The good results in my opinion are with simple this:
On trumpet - adding shelving high's and high mids, cutting low mids and shelving lows;
On trombone - vice versa.
In this case trombone alone sounds toneless, but in the mix it lays nice, not competing with trumpet.
As at the same time I am working with other band, with a lot of heavy guitars, every time switching from one to another gives me a feeling, that everything sounds totaly new. I think it is because I start to work with the project, while the other project is in my head :)
