Alright, now my computer is telling me it's not connected to the internet although it is connected to my network... this is driving me insane. Also I got the dual monitors working again but it freezes the machine up a lot

Feb 20, 2004 11:50 am I see the evil word "E-Machines" in your profile. That explains a lot right there. I dunno if you have yet, but just reimaging the thing may end up being the route to go considering the frequency and type of problems you are having.

Feb 20, 2004 12:06 pm yeah thats what I think I'll have to do to. Will have to wait for a bit until I get the disks in the mail from e-machines and a removeable hard drive to back some stuff up on but yeah. Until then I just won't be able to do much
Feb 20, 2004 12:32 pm Idle curiousity, have you run adaware or anything? And made sure it had the most recent definition file...

Feb 20, 2004 01:59 pm Yeah I run adaware, spybot S&D, AVG virus scanner, and Sygate Personal Firewall all the time when I'm not using the machine to record. I have no viruses (that AVG could pick up) and have rid the machine of all the spyware. Interesting thing, I turned the machine on and bam, internet works now
Feb 20, 2004 02:02 pm sounds typical for e-machines. I worked on many when I was a tech, oddly, the store I saw the most of them was the store located in a "rich part" of the twin cities.
Anyway, they do weird things because, not to be rude or anything, they are built from the cheapest component possible. Maybe it is an Intel CPU with 256MB Ram, but they use the cheapest chipsets and intergrated peripherals than can get so they can keep their price down as low as they do.

Feb 20, 2004 02:36 pm yeah, well it's my fault for buying a stock machine. No biggy, I will be updating soon enough
Feb 20, 2004 02:39 pm It's unfortunate, but lots of people buy them. The issue is that not many of those people decide to try to do one of the most resource intensive thing you can on it :-)
Most use it to surf the net, check email and stocks and run Office or Works. You, my good man, decided to make a recording studio out of it...substantially different thing :-)
