I am a fan of the late Roger Troutman and
i am not sure which instrument he used for vocal
effects, the vocoder or the talk box? What vst
plug in can give me that effect?

I beleive he used a multi-band vocoder. There is a VST plug out there called Orange vocoder. I have used it in Cubase and WaveLab and it is pretty good. It is still not quite like tweaking a real hardware vocoder though.

i got a free cubase effect for that but its rubbish, it just plays the vocal as is, but with a set tone behind it.

definately get a real one if ya can!
