Fruity Loops

Well I got a demo version of Fruity Loops today... it\'s pretty cool, but is there a way to loop more than 1 measure? Another thing that\'s bugging me... ever since I installed it, my computer seems to be laging... like when I type it takes about a second for the letters to show up. Same thing with the mouse. Any idea why that might be?

I dunno about the lag, but as far as the one measure thing...well, open the app, make you loop, then do me a favor and hit the "Enter" button (or "Return" depending on your keyboard) what you will see then will totally open the doors, it's a sequencer for all the loops, you can play multiple loops at the same time over each other, one after another and compose your whole song in it. It's just a grid with measure numbers going across the top and loop numbers going down the side, click where you want which loops to play.

The lag though I just can't think of a reason at the moment...

I restarted and the lag stopped... so that's cool. I'll try what you said then...

Ok... got that down... now is there any way to use different kits for different parts of a song? Basicly what I'm trying to do is use an electronic sounding kit for most of the song, then have a part where it kicks into real sounding drums (which I just may end up doing myself if I can't figure this out) and then back to the electronic part if that makes any sense.

as far as kits go.. you have to supply those. just look around online for sample discs that have drums sounds, percussion, etc. there are a lot of companies out there that making sample discs.

and with switching kits.. just add a sampler track.. find the sound and apply it to the sampler track you just created.

Nope, only one company makes sample discs PowerFX, baby! No other company even comes close to their quality, I won't hear of it!

Yup, I have been using their stuff for a while now. And they are makin some kick but sample's. They have some stuff that is up there with the like's of ILIO, who have some very off the wall stuff.

You can also add other drum samples to the kit you are using and then just use those for another pattern. Then when you set that pattern to play in the playlist it will only be using the alternate drums.

Hey dB, I have a question about the PowerFX discs. Can fruity loops play those samples from the disc or do they have to be on the Hard drive? Along the same line of thinking, if that's possible, would it also be possible for me to put the samples that I've downloaded, onto cd so I don't have to have them taking up so much room on my hard drive?

Thanks, Terry

As far as I know, for FruityLoops to use any samples they have to be in the FruityLoops Samples folder.

Even if you could, I wouldn't recommend running them from a CD, you then have to deal with access time and other processes getting in the way of CD access.

But, the short answer is "no, I don't think so"

That said, PowerFX is more loops than individual samples, I dice them up into samples for use in apps like FruityLoops.

to use a sample with fruity loops all you have to do is select the channel you'd want to change then click on the button that displays the channel name or current sample used. this opens up a window that allows you to browse for another .wav file to replace the sample by clicking the folder icon and pointing it to the directory your desired sample is located. from this window you can also edit the attack, decay, amplitude, etc. of that selected sample.

it's possible to keep the samples on CD but i don't recommend it due to issues DB mentioned.

why can't i remember how to devote an insert effect to a SINGLE drum wav? like, you know, i have a high hat i want to distort heavily but i want to leave the other drums normal. the fruity mixer is weird. i don't see where you route the incoming sound. there is a slot at bottom of the mixer but the only option is 'none.' i know i did this before but i got away from it...

only way i know on FL is to change the fx number in the top right after you click on the channel you want to change and add the fx's on the mixer channel you selected.
