So I have this kickass pc sitting here staring me in the face, the mixer everyone recomended, pretty good monitors, everything's all set.

but I have no recording software. Lmao.

when I get my tax refund on the 18th I'll know whether I can scoop up sonar 3 this month. If it'skinda small i'm gonna have to wait'til May. (That's not long given it took 3 years to save for the PC lmao)

I just wanted to ask, who's experienced the mind numbingly frustrating process of saving up for ages, looking up the product everyday to keep yourself sane, etc. ? lol.

Be nice to know I ain't the only one. :)

Uh, ya, been there and done that. Its pathetic to see me in the music stores a few years ago, staring lovingly at a piece of gear I knew I had to wait for. In fact, I just parted with several pieces of gear I have had for many years, its the same feeling only worse.

But hey if you want to take a little spin you can download the demo and puts with it. There are limits on what it will do, but hey it will give ya a taste. And as far as that goes, check out the links section specifically under freeware www.homerecordingconnecti...18&cat_id=6 and sharware www.homerecordingconnecti...8&cat_id=19 although the sharewate is limited to certain things. But give a look in there, I think there are a couple of little apps to wet your whistle till the cash comes in for the big dog.

I believe Fat Rock Studio is a nice 16 track app that works great, they have added some FX now and its still free.

dude saving the cash for stuff and waiting is all my life is about, I have no source of income right now so I have to save up cash just to be able to pay the bills, so any ideas of a new toy are so far away it's unreal, and that sucks majorly. I'm at the point where I'm plaing bars and coffee shops for tips just to be able to eat and bumming money off the parents for bills heh... one of these days someplace is going to call me back for a job, but until then it's wishin i had more toys lol

Yeah, I've been there... :) Hang in there, man.

You know, you could always do your first project using free recording software. I think there's a free version of Cool Edit that records up to four tracks. You could start sketching out a song idea or something to clean up and redo later...

www.digitalsoundplanet.co...udio_free.phtml Quartz Studio is a protty popular free multitracker. ProTools free (which actually WORKS with non-protools hardware www.digidesign.com/ptfree/ if you have Windows 98 or ME...I guess they haven't got around to updating for, oh, 3 or 4 years...MultitrackStudio www.multitrackstudio.com/ is a butt-kickin app with unlimited tracks and routing options, and the bundled effects are nice, for only $120...which is another less expensive option. There are cheaper ways to do things... :)

The 21 day trial of Adobe Audition is 99.9% fully functional (mp3 encoder only does 1 minute). Be a good way to pass the time waiting for the bucks to buy Sonar. :)

While in theory that sounds like good practice, in doing so you are still encouraging crackers and warez by then getting their per view ad revenue or whatever other kind of revenue they get from the forcing you to vote, popup and popunder ads and other crap. To determine usability is what the demo downloads are for.

While it's admirable you bought the version DO NOT encourage piracy of any sort in this forum. Our software sponsors probably wouldn't look kindly on it and neither do I.

dB: The download IS AT Adobe, and I think it's been increased to a 30 day trial. :)

My mistake I thought the reference to piracy was on my post, I see now it was probably presleys. :)

But ya, you guys quit treating CEP/Audition like a red headed stepchild, the one no one talks about. <VBG>

But it is the red headed step child, isnt it?

Just kidding, yes there are several here who like Cool Edit Pro as well. But he is looking to try something free untill the Sonar day comes.
