How do I combine 2 mono tracks to form a single stereo track in Cool Edit Pro? Is this even possible?
I'm just looking for a way to reduce the number of tracks I'm working with. I'm doubling the rhythm guitar tracks, and my computer is starting to bog down while trying to play them back. It'd be nice to combine the doubled parts, which are panned hard left/right, into a single stereo track that still maintains the individual left/right channels.

Dec 23, 2003 10:15 am Well, first, moving from two mono to one stereo isn't reducing the number of tracks...BUT, I guess I would open the two and mix them down, panned opposite, to a single stereo wav file, then import that into your project and remove the two monos.
Or, open a stereo track, enable recording on it, mute all the other tracks and record those those two into one.

Dec 23, 2003 10:17 am In wave edit, create a new stereo track. Select the side you want first. Paste what you want in there. Select the other side, paste your second part. That should do it.

Dec 23, 2003 09:10 pm Or you can simply select the tracks you want and then mixdown to an empty track, by default it will be a stereo mix. :)
Unless you mix 3+ tracks it's not likely to help you much though, since you'll still be playing the same # of tracks. What I do on doubled tracks if I start to have problems is temporarily remove the doubled parts while I work on new parts. I usually don't have problems though till I start adding effects, so when I hit that problem I just Lock the effects on the some of the tracks and that takes care of the problem.
A little note about CEP. To get any benefit from reducing the # of tracks being played you can't just mute the ones you aren't using, you need to remove them. Hopefully this will be addressed if and when a new version is released. :/
