Multitrack advice

Hello, I am looking to buy a digital multitrack for under $1200 (with cdr). Any units come to mind with regard to ease of use, quality, memory? The Boss BR1180 has been recommended to me. Korg?, Roland? I do not want a compact flash machine though.

I bit more expensive, but cool: service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

another for cheaper: service.bfast.com/bfast/c...mp;bfmtype=gear

it kinda depends on how many track you need.

There are some others listed here: www.homerecordingconnecti...t&cat_id=16

Unless you have a specific need that can only be served by a multitrack recorder unit, I'd put that money into a computer. You'll get FAR more tracks and greater versatility.

Yammaha AW16G is a good purchase if it hasn't been suggested already.

Agreeing with jues once again. I have putzed with several and so far the Yamaha was the best bang for the buck. It is a much better choice the the BR-1180. And it is an easy unit to work with and learn.

Thanks for the feedback! My intention is to use it mainly for writing, and song demos.

I had Fostex MR 8 but sent it back a week later as there was a buzz in it's headphone amp... got Tascam tape unit... but track two no longer works after 5 months ( I put long hours on these things!) but it's not worth the labor to get it repaired.

I would like to find something with at least 10 tracks.

I would rather have a piece of recording hardware instead of through my computer.

how come you'd prefer the hardwear over the computer?

its no less valid, im just wondering, cos i, personally, would always use a pc over a multitracker...

even with my awful (though soon to be updated) PC, id rather use this than something portable - i just thik id find them far too limiting compared to a pc...

You could even look at setting up a laptop for portable use, then youd have the best of both worlds.

I suppose it's the love/hate relationship with my computer that pushes me to the hardware side.. but I suppose it IS worth a look. Portability is an issue.. laptop may be the way to go.

I'll go looking/learning in that direction.. see what might fit.

Cheers!
