I was browsing the links section in HRC, and found some amazing sites that have free stuff for downloads. One of the downloads was a pretty amazing drum loop creation program that I have pretty much fallen in love with. Now, I have nothing against fruity loops, but with all the added bells and whistles, its just too much for someone like me who just wants to make some good sounding loops with no hassle......and who doesnt have the funds to spend on countless programs. Soooooo.......if you're recording on a budget (and most of us here are), and you need a drum loop program that costs absolutely NOTHING, check out ibeat.

Nov 20, 2003 10:11 pm Heck, I forgot all about that one. I downloaded it a coupel years ago used it twice and when I built the new box never installed it again. Now I feel lame.
Nov 20, 2003 10:42 pm So far its been pretty cool. The only problem I got right now is that when I save the drum beats, its as an ibeat file. I have no idea how to make the ibeat file into a wav. Yet. But it is definately something i'd recommend to anybody who needs to make loops. You cant beat the price!

Nov 21, 2003 01:40 am so is this a plugin or a standalone app
Nov 21, 2003 02:54 am Standalone app. The rub is, you cant export to a wav file with this program.......yet. You have to record your beats through your windows mixer to a device like windows sound recorder. However, the 2.0 beta version states that once 2.0 is released, they'll have an export function to directly export .wav files to your computer.

Nov 21, 2003 04:50 am I like the layout, like a hardware drum machine... but I find it's sounds lacking. Of course it is free... so ya can't beat that. I'm sticking to fruityloops until I get project 5, but that is a neat program... and it's free
Nov 21, 2003 08:44 am Yeah, there is definately room for improvement. But the 2.0 beta version has a better setup although the sound is still somewhat lacking. But with the user sounds, you have the opportunity to make your own sounds (i believe...I haven't actually tried this yet) so im thinking about getting some samples from a real drumkit. That way I can have a realistic sounding drum without the hassle of a drummer, setup time, micing....you know, all the BS.

Nov 21, 2003 02:16 pm you might want to check leafdrums as well. It's shareware and so isn't free but at $25 bucks it's a pretty decent program for all it does. The download is fully functional and remains fully functional even after the evaluation period expires.

Nov 22, 2003 09:48 pm Wow...leafdrums is nice! MUCH better than ibeat. I didnt think there were that many drumloop generator programs online as freeware/shareware. Thanx for the tip. Heck, you dont even have to record your loops via soundrecorder with that ever handy write function. And you can write each drum to a different track for adding reverb and such! PLUS it has effects built right into the program! Well worth the $25 price tag. You guys are the best. No. Really.

Nov 22, 2003 10:04 pm Yep, after scouring the net that's the best one I've come up with for someone that just needs something to get a decent drum track up, and the price is very reasonable. It does have it's little annoyances but it's a very versatile little program.
Glad ya liked it. :)
