I've looked at a Behringer condenser mic and I'm looking at spending between $200& $300 Australian
I would like to know more about what brands and models are good in that price range.

Have a look at some of the Studio Projects mic's. They are getting rave reviews all over the net for thier tone charateristics and value. I myself own the B1 and have been very happy with it, although they do make higher end models in the $200 - $300 range.

I have four that I am in love with. Each for a different purpose.

Oktava 319: Rich full vocals.
Oktava 012: Strings full rich articulate
NT1: Extreamly crisp clear articulate for large group stereo.
Behringer B2: Very close match for the NT1 with the added ability of omni pick up patern for large band hall recording.

All of these mics are carry very low price tags and perform very well.

Another mic I carry is the Rode NT3. It is not a stellar mic, but has a fairly tight patern with good rejection for general use when working in noisy invironments. This may sound frivolous, however a heard of ants can constitute a noisy invironment when using a large diaphram like the NT1, Beh B2, or Oktava 319. Something to bear in mind.
