western pennsylvania music scene

major decision...hard to make. ya'all may have seen me post stuff about moving to LA and oregon and all that. but i've ruled those places out. i know some of you are involved with the PA music scene. i grew up in pittsburgh and am on the razor's edge as far as moving back there, from orlando where i am now. i could use your take on the local PA music scene, which i was never really involved with while i was there. how is it? is western PA a mistake, if you're trying to have a band? orlando has a sucky scene, but lots of great venues and places to play. (and, probably, a Label Eye floating around here and there.) in orlando, local bands routinely have the chance to play house of blues and hard rock live in downtown disney and universal studios, respectively. so this is my dilemma this week. how much do you love the PA music scene? speak! please, help! help me end the madness!

I have always been told that the northwest coast has had a thriving music scene, even after the grunge explosion of the early nineties. I live on Vancouver Island and the largest city Vancouver (2 million) has always had a great music scene. I dont know about PA.

believe me, i know. deciding not to move to portland was difficult. the NW would be the best place for me, musically, but it lacks other things i'm used to and depend upon. i'm the biggest fan of northwest music i know. i think that for the most part music up there is real and raw.
