anyone here from the portland or seattle area?

strikes me as the country's best music hotspot, even today. been thinking it might be worth it to move there.

I dunno, Seattle was all the rage when grunge was the trend. Is it still?

i think it must be, in its own way, because the kind of culture that spawned grunge still exists up there.

i didn't mean 'hot spot' commercially, but creatively. the NW seems to be a diverse place that is unified by certain attitudes about music which i find crucial but lacking in a lot of other places. orlando, where i live, for instance, is dominated by fake, bad radio-wannabe bands.

but portland and seattle are where the freaks live. socially conscious people end up there because the place is so liberal, and the result is that the rock music tends to--like i was saying in my rant about lyrics--have a sense of context. it is more reactionary. which makes it a bit more dangerous and not prone to cliches and stereotypes. it just seems more progressive and experimental.

i couldn't move to seattle, though. portland maybe. i feel like i'm too influenced by nirvana, and playing that kind of music in the NW would be redundant. i need new influences!
