Mysterious piece of gear...

Back in high school, I received this mixer as a gift from my parents. It sat unused for years at their house until recently, when I remembered it and brought it to my home. Now, I'm puzzled about just wtf it is supposed to be used for.

It is a blue Randall rackmount mixer with 6 channels. Each channel has a gain, effect, and pan knob. On the back, there are left/right main outputs, effects send/return, and maybe a couple of other ins/outs, all 1/4". I'm at work now or I'd give a more accurate description and a model number for it. This was purchased, possibly used, between 1992 and 1994.

I've Googled the model number and came up with nothing...I've also tried searches for Randall mixer, Randall rackmount mixer, but no dice.

Does anybody have any idea just what the heck this thing is supposed to be used for? I ask because with all of the talk recently about microphone preamps, I wonder if this can serve that purpose since there is a gain knob for each channel plus a master gain knob.

This is a line level mixer commonly used to mix things like keyboards, synths, electronic drums and various other instruments that run at line-level.

I don't think running as a preamp is it's intended purpose, but try it. With only 1/4" ins, well, it obviously isn't meant to preamp XLR equiped mics...and I doubt it has phantom power. :-)

But it could surely find a place in your arsenal o' gear.

I'd use it as a submixer for my keys and synths. Also it could make a nice stage mixer. Not a bad peice of gear, worth keeping around really. Just toy with it, I'm sure you can find a use.
