Jul 28, 2003 12:10 am The Red Fleece:
The song is very good, the playing is tight, I like the vocals, but you really need to spend more time on the mix.
Save Face:
Pretty much the same story. Really needs more time on the mixing.
Guitars need to be fattened up, drums as mentioned need to sit better in the mix with a bit less bass to them. Have a listen to jues "Swandive" or blueninja's "I did" for an example of what I'm talking about.
The songs are definitley worth spending the time on.
I hope I'm not offending you with my opinion, but I don't think just telling you I like the songs (which I do) really helps you get where you want to go :).

Jul 29, 2003 02:36 pm Well I'm certainly no expert and jues or a number of the other's here could probably give you better advice, but EQ is primarily what you would use to get the instruments shaped up. Compressors can help alot too.
If each piece isn't on it's own track it gets harder though because you'll be affecting more than a single instrument. Then work on the volume levels in the mix vs other parts of the song to make sure you have a balanced mix where no one thing steals the show (unless of course it should for given thing such as a lead) Even then it should still be 'in' the mix and not sitting on top.
I just picture all of the parts of song in 3d and move them front to back left/right etc. till I'm happy with the way things are sitting.

Aug 06, 2003 08:02 am I agree with the comments written above, but I'd also like to add that I think this is a really cool, interesting piece, with a very tight, snappy performance. Nice job. If I heard this song on the radio, I'd listen.
When I want to fatten my sound, I record a guitar part two or three times and use a slightly different sound each time. I use a SansAmp amp emulator and just play with the settings to give me a fat tone with heavy bottom for one track, a bright, snappy track, and maybe one other for character. Yes, definitely hit that guitar with an EQ but the composition is great and the performance is too. Nice.
