Well now that is an impossible question to answer! Is which one better for what? What are your main priorities?

Honestly, I haven't seen Sonar 2 yet (though I am sure Noize2u will force me to when he gets it :-)

For ease of use and a feature-rich application, I would personally say SOnar is better, as people generally have an easier time working with it. For a way more feature-packed application, though being harder to use, I would say Cubase.

That said, I think Nuendo blows them both away by being more feature packed than either of the apps above and being very easy to use. AND ithas the added coolnes of being able to mix surround sound.

Nuendo: www.nuendo.com (couldn't find a Musician's Friend link)

is the nuendo surond sound editon the same thing as the regular only with souround or is it only for souround sound? (sorry about speeling) and would it be good to get the encoder plugin and the surroundverb while i'm at it?

The Surround Edition allows you to mix in stereo, surround or whatever format you like.
When I start a new project it asks me what type of project it will be, 5.1 surround, stereo, etc.

The Surroundverb, well, I don't have it myself and have never felt the need for it, but if you want to, by all means go right ahead.

I've heard of Cubase SX actually looks rather cool, with it's VST Networking, which, if it works like I imagine, will be a great tool. Anyway, yeah I've always liked Cubase.

Yes, I was invited to a showing on Cubase SX, as I am a registered user. I am not sure though, if I want to spend the money to upgrade both Sonar and Cubase. But maybe after I attend the show, I will be so impressed, I will be forced to shell out a huge amount of cash just to have the next generation of their stuff, and be able to upgrade again in 6 month's. Tha said, I don't know why I put myself through all this. I must be a glutton for punishment.

No brock, the only thing to do would be to upgrade your OS, which, even if you're not going to be using Cubases SX, I recomend you do.

XP Pro is actually a really nice OS once you tweak it... not to mention it looks cooler.
