What the hell kind of pawn shop charges new prices for used gear?

I've been looking for ages for a used Gene Simmons Axe bass to pop up on the market...not cuz it's amazing playing or it's sound (though they do sound great) but just cuz it's cool, and it'd be, at the very least, a cool item in Rock Room (tm).

Today I find one, sounds great, plays OK, but needs a set up...pots are loose and one noisy, but easily fixable...and no gig bag...and they want the same money for it that it costs new, with a gig bag...WTH?

Still, I really want it!

You try and talk him down? Ask them if they price match? Ha ha.

Pawn shops, trying to get you coming and going.

Hey coolo, good to see ya.

I'm gonna let it hang there for a bit, they don't negotiate at all until after it's been hanging 30 days or something like that...and it will be.

I have no problem with them making money, that's a business, but, I think whoever bought that bass, and the price they must have bought it for, based on what they are asking, should likely find a new line of work, cuz pawnbroking clearly ain't his strong suit. :-)

all Pawn shops do is get the price off Ebay. So more than likely, thats the price some idiot paid online... which happens fairly often... my old bassist had a 2x10 cab he sold for $20 over retail plus $40 in shipping.

Yeah, a lot do that...pay half of what they see online, then double it for profit, then let it sit around until they haggle...I actually, in this case, found a brand new one online for $100 less.

So, like I said, I'll just let it sit, let them sweat, then go offer them about what I presume they paid for it and tell them to cut their losses and break even...then I'll hang it on the wall of my office cuz it's cool. LOL

No, they actually sold it within a week, which means they must have got close to the asking price, they usually don't even haggle for 30 days...it would have been cool, but not for that price.

Upside, I did win a nice acoustic bass at a benefit silent auction for $150, so that's good.
