Hi, I have a Yamaha keyboard, Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer, Roland 3100 mixer, Akai S5000 sampler connected through USB to my old good computer, Roland SCC-1 sound card module and Emagic mt4 for Midi in/out. I have Voytra, which I used a bit and Cubase softeware, that I have not used before. I have a problem setting it up and get all the pieces talking to each other. I had these equioments for years now as I was setting up a home studio to help with the recording of some hymns for teh church and sunday school as a service, but we ended up using another studio, byt the person helping us is very busy and we can not rely on him any longer. So, I am askiIng for help to set up the home studo and get it to work. I live in Mascot in Sydney. Thank you in advance and God bless.

Welcome to HRC.

It seems like it should be pretty straightforward...how is it all hooked up right now? Seems most of your devices have MIDI ins and outs and audio outs...so the MIDI goes into the MIDI device controller (eMagic thing) and the audio outs go into the mixer which lead to your sound card.

Cubase would then be used to record the audio and/or midi data for each track. Does Cubase record MIDI? I think so, but it's been years since I have used it...

Sorry I'm late getting to this, I've been out of it lately (nasty case of a secondary infection giving me strep throat and bronchitis)

So, what I would do is use that mt4 as your midi hub.

Yamaha Keyboard midi out -> midi in on the emagic mt4. Then, I would run midi out from the emagic mt4 to the midi in on any devices you want to connect and control from the yamaha keyboard. (such as the DX7 and the Akai sampler)

This makes your yamaha keyboard your "master controller" Then, the audio outs from the DX7, sampler, and the yamaha keyboard (if it has audio outs) should all go into the Roland mixer, and the roland mixer stereo out should got into your SCC-1 soundcard.

This should enable you to control the external sampler and synth from the yamaha keyboard, send the audio from the synth/sampler into the roland mixer, and have the SCC-1 record the audio from the mixer into your DAW (either Voytra or Cubase)

Yeah, cubase should record midi if you set up a midi track for it. assuming that emagic mt4 is connected to the computer, you'd record the midi data from one of its ports. (I think)

You may need to play around with it a bit to get everything working smoothly.

Hope that helps!
