I've been updating our 'playlist' on our Facebook page as I wrap up mixing each song. If you're a fan of deathmetal, check out our new tunes (mixed) as well as some others still to be mixed.

Feedback is always welcome...

Thanks,

Not exactly my style, but I can get some of it, the drums I don't "get"...they just don't sound like they fit.

Severed Wings:

I really like the vocal sound!

Maybe the kick is a little clicky, or maybe just slightly loud, or maybe not scooped enough? I'm getting confused by the drums parts sometimes. (Could be my ignorance to the genre though)

Toms are reaallly wide panned. As are the cymbals. I would bring them in a bit and let the guitars be out wide.

Balance wise I think it sounds cool.

3:02 maybe that vocal could come down a bit and the guitars could stay at the same intensity

Haha! In metal, straight forward beats are not allowed! On the up beat, down beat.. and even sideways beat if you can pull it off!

Check this band out (even if for first 1 min); you'll see what I mean very quickly. Steve Shelton (drums) is my inspiration so perhaps my patterns will make more sense when you hear the bizarreness of his patterns.

I didn't mean to offend your drum patterns, I think they're rad. I was meaning the mix of the drums.

Whats with the vocal on that song? looool

Listening to that drum mix I think your overheads could come down a lot. Your snare could use a layered short ambient sample that is quite bright to give it some space and your kick drum could use more meat and have a more defined bottom end!

Also the guitars are a lot more scooped on that song, with less high mids. Not sure if that was meant as a reference but yeah lol.

Ooops.. my bad!

The drums have been a stickler for me. If I reduce the overheads, it seems to lose some of the airy space as well as make the mix muddy. I can bring them down again, but then I'm back to mixing guitars to get that airyness back.

Regarding the kick... another sore spot. Death metal drums are usually more click, less boom. But our music isn't fast enough to pull that off so I was trying to find a happy medium. Maybe I'll reduce some of the compression to get that back up some.

The whole thing still needs work, to be honest. Seems like the more I try, the worse it gets though. I'll try to tweak the drums and see if I can refine it a bit. Toms need some help too sound wise.. not sure about panning them closer though since I have 5 of them. Bringing them in towards the center loses that tom awareness when you're air drumming! Hahahaha!!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll post newer samples in a few days.
