New profile feature - social media links

So, I am starting to toy around with "authorship" in search engines...some consider it invasive and offensive, invasion of privacy, yada yada yada...some consider it brilliant data mining and consolidation of information.

Additionally, allows further networking between members outside of the HRC platform.

I have provided a mechanism for people on either side to participate or not, in such things...in your profile editing you will now find options to add social media links to Google+, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

These links will trickle through your article submissions and forum posts to your profile, and your profile to those social media outlets...and they are tagged to denote authorship...

In terms of a professional in the field, here dispensing real knowledge and information (we do have some honest pros here) this will raise your authority in search engines, and consolidate your knowledge as search engine embrace the relationships more and more. For those just here talking **** and having fun, there isn't much of a net gain or net loss, just a longer audit trail through your online persona.

So, fill out the social media links if you wish, if not, that's cool too, unlike some of the bigger places on the net (yeah, looking at you, Google and Bing) I am not forcing a relationship, just allowing it if you choose.

Sounds cool to me. Keeping it optional is always a plus, but having the option to help cement the fact that you know what you know, and to add greater visbility and access to that knowledge is always a plus, I think.

Don't know if I'll add facebook, guess it wouldn't hurt, maybe I could link it to my ByteMixSound facebook page rather than my profile....don't know. I probably will fill in the google+ link info.

Yeah, I will never "force" any integration like that on HRC's users...we have all seen the fallout with Google and Facebook forcing crap on people...won't do that, but hey, if you want to, rock on.

G+ seems to be the main target when it comes to authorship tracking...presumably until Bing or Yahoo gets around to building some other social network...then they'll want to use their own data...but not sure I see that happening any time soon.
