Please let me know your thoughts on either/both.
I have Windows 8.

Sep 09, 2013 07:58 am I have only used Reason a few times, but found it cumbersome and unintuitive.
Sonar's usability, IMO is epic, logic and easy to figure. I hated it before their upgrade to "Sonar", as earlier it was "Pro Audio"...Pro Audio I found bad sounding, while still the best usability, sounded crappy, with it's upgrade in audio engine with Sonar, it's improved amazingly.

Sep 10, 2013 04:55 am I think it really depends on your needs and mindset. Some people love Reaper, some can't get their head wrapped around it, or find it hard to establish an effective workflow.
The same could be said for any DAW or music creation/editing/production tool or software.
Try the demos, and see which software your brain likes the best.
If you're a major synth head and love modularity, then Reason might be good for you. If you're more into music production, mixing, engineering, and more standard DAW applications, then you might want to look at Sonar.
I know Reason has changed a bit over the years, so I don't know what it's like now. But I do know some heavy synthesists like it, and treat it as a synth playground.
So try em both, and see which one you like the best that lets you get your music done, and that you can easily establish an effective workflow, and get it.

Sep 11, 2013 12:43 pm I've been using an old version of Reason for many years now. The old version is not a full DAW, as you cannot record into it directly. My 2 complaints about it are lack of support for audio and thereby lack of full mixing capabilities. And secondly not having the ability to use outside plugins for effects (even if some of the built in effects are pretty cool). It's main strengths were a variety of cool built in synthesizers and it's routability, making it a nice sound/beat production software.
I just looked at Reason7 and it looks like there is now the ability to record audio and mix within Reason. I still cannot find support for 3rd party plugins though.
I've not used Sonar, so it's hard to provide input in that arena.
