Hot swappable hard drives? Possible?

I've just got me a second hand thinkpad x220 i5 for my audio needs. So as a rule I won't be installing anything on it other than a few essentials and audio software with a partition for audio projects etc.

I'm wondering though, it's probably the fastest computer I've ever owned and a bit of a waste if its just used for audio and I can't use it for anything else, so I thought, maybe it's possible to change the hard drive depending on what I want to use it for - is this done much by fellow audio enthisiasts? I looked into installing another windows on a USB hard drive or even stick but it seems tricky.

I do have a few old hard drives (still to look if they will fit or not as they are at least 10 years old) so potentially I could just swap over the hard drive and have a different machine to work with. Is there anything wrong with that?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

What else do you want to use it for? I think hobbiest or, part time pros vastly over-exaggerate the necessity of an "audio only" PC...with the spped and power of modern PC's it's just not necessary in my humble opinion.

I would worry about it myself, as long as "other uses" are in the area of internet surfing, office docs, maybe gaming and other standard usage like that.
