Can anyone suggest a nice little guitar effects device for live sound? I am looking for a compact box that i can use for basic effects including a nice distortion sound. I do have line6 pod farm software but if I recall it does not work on the foot pedal model. Is there any device from line6 that can use the pod farm effects live in a foot pedal or small box form factor?
Im rebuilding my modest home studio after a house fire, and this time around im turning it into a headphones-based jam space for all my musical cronies to play in. No need to get the cops involved, neighbors! We will be as quiet as mice. Ive got an Alesis dm8 usb drum kit, which will patch into my Alesis multimix cue 6 headphone amp/mixer, and other stringed instruments will be waiting to patch in as well. I just dont have any device to add distortion or basic effect to the guitar tone.

Dec 28, 2012 11:33 am Under $100 would be perfect. Under $200 would be necessity. Thanks all for your replies! :)
Dec 28, 2012 01:35 pm Man, this is a big, open ended topic...too many pedals to choose from. I can't say I know much from Line 6 in the multi-effects pedal area, but, I have seen Floor POD pedals for under $200 at pawn shops and used music gear shops.
Beyond that, Boss makes some decent pedals for live use, not all the effects are great, but they always have a handful of decent presets and some tweakability...and they are very reasonable prices...
Dec 29, 2012 09:22 pm yeah i agree with db, pawn shops and maybe even thrift stores would be a good place to try. I've seen some pretty cool stuff there.
You CAN use pod farm on a laptop with a footswitch btw.
What interface are you using? My line 6 ux2 has 2 footswitch inputs.
Within pod farm you can program any and all buttons on the footswitch (depending on how many it has) to do different functions. If its just a simple 1 function switch, you should be able to set it to just switch between 2 tones.

Dec 31, 2012 08:58 am Thanks for the suggestions! Quickxkid, forgot to reply to I have a line6 kb37 keyboard and audio interface. I am leaning heavily towards just running effects through my laptop with Pod Farm. I guess I dont really need an effects box after all, then. I wont ever be relying on it for gigs anyhow, just jamming and recording, so that seems like the perfect solution.

Jan 05, 2013 01:36 am Ok, I just plugged in my KB37, guitar, headphones, installed POD Farm 2, updated with Line6 monkey for an hour - and I have opened the gateway to a sonic realm of guitar heaven...
Before today, I haven't actually had the chance to sit down and get all the new gear all installed and connected - no time since the move, no point before the move. I have a couple of buddies coming over to jam tomorrow for the first time. This looks like the start of a beautiful guitar solo...
I think I'm going to be up really late tonight. hahahahahahha

Jan 05, 2013 01:37 am I can't believe I didn't realize POD Farm could serve as a real-time effects rack. Not for the first time, I'm glad I've got HRC as a resource. Thanks all :)
