OK, in this oreder. Setup the M-Audio Duo and double check at M-Audios website that you have the most current drivers for it. Then set up the Midisport 2x2, again making sure you have the most up to date drivers installed.

Now decide whether you are going to use the Oxygen 8 thru the midi port or the USB port and get it plugged in and recognized by windows.

Now you can install Sonar 2.2 and let it do its thing as far as when you run it for the first time it will run a program called Wave Profiler, this is how it wets up the audio drivers for Sonar. I would suggest using ASIO drivers as they will give the best results, next step down would be WDM. Never use the MME drivers if you dont have to.

Now you will need to go into options/midi and select you input and output ports. Now go to options/audio and double check that you have the duo selected as the audio driver. And you should be all set.

My sugestion is to read the Getting started section of Sonars manual and running through the tutorial section as this will give you a good feel for the software. This is almost a must if you are a first timer to a DAW like Sonar. It is really a user friendly program, but it does take some knowledge of these kinds of applications to run.

And by all means, if you have mmore questions come back and ask away. That is why were here.

Peace

Maybe for you it is a waste, many people like the techno, electronic music. Personally, I enjoy sitting at my PC playing with softsynths tweaking sounds and messing around. Just because it's not your thing hardly makes it a waste for everyone.

And actually, I am currently considering buying the Oxygen 8 as well.

Thank you MKF, I hope I didnt come off as angry or anything. And yes, many of us do spend many hours messing about with sound, If it werent for that crap as you put it, I wouldnt have gotten many of the jobs I did. I too love the old analog synths and still own one, and would own more if there was room. But truth be told, I am learning to use the softsynths and get as good or better a sound then I ever got with my old analogs. That is not to say I will ever sell them, but I can create new and unique sounds I never dreamt I could create, and with half the work. The digital world has given us a new tool and I will be using it to its fullest, and twisting it as far out of proportion as I can.

I am in all respects a tinkerer, I love to find new and unusual sounds from source and things nobody has tried before, and all this new stuff has given me the tools to do it. And many others like me as well.

My main focus is to create something new. And I will spend hours sitting with a new piece of software doing things with it that the makers never thought anyone would do. That is truly the buety of all this new digital stuff, and thoe are the tools I will use, as well as the old ones. Music is what you make of it, and I love to create the sounds that people make music with, as well as my own oddly crafted works.

If you would like MKF, go have a listen to one of my older tunes in Electronica. It is called drive:a and was created using very untraditional sounds as instruments.

I am having problems connecting my Oxygen 8 controller. I am running Windows XP, i have the Service Pack 1, i have DirectX 9.0b, i have 6 USB ports (2.0) and only 2 are in use, one for my wireless keyboard, one for my mouse. Ive tried installin the software and drivers on each USB port but my computer will not recognize the Oxygen 8. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem????

Lost for words with all to say.

Welcome to HRC!

The only thing I could think of is maybe the Oxygen controller is having issues itself. Do you have another computer you could try to install it on to see if it's okay? Have your tried another USB port?

tried uninstallin everything, then just plugging it in and waiting for windows to detect it? from there, itll instal the drivers automatically maybe.

dont know how computer literate you are, so apologies if this seems insulting to your intelligence...

no, its ok. Id like to think of myself as moderately literate. Ive actually tried to uninstall everything in safe mode and then tryin to install in each of the 6 ports and its not being recognized. It was working fine before i formatted my computer. I know i know, dumb move. But i had to considering all of the junk that was popping up, and i think it was due to a virus or a corrupt file i was sent. I installed the KS1X1_1010_web.exe from the CD that came with the Oxygen 8 but i still get nothing. The drivers show up in the device manager if i go to sound, audio etc, and then click on Oxygen 8 properties and driver details. They show up in my system32 folder under drivers. Usbkt1x1.sys and Usbkt1x1.dll. But i still have that blasted yellow exclamation point showing up and i get error code 10, device cannot start. Argh!!

I understand this post is ages old, however. I have exactually the same problem with my M-Audio radium 49 keyboard it uses the same driver (KS1x1_1010_web.exe) and windows dosent recognise it. I have tried many many things to solve the problem, still no joy.
