I need an HDMI hub

OK, so here is the deal, I finished my basement wired the theater, sounds awesome, but I have a need...and HDMI hub...

My TV has plenty of ins and outs, but I'd rather just send one to the TV and have a hub in the entertainment center for a hub, but I really don't want to buy a new receiver...my current receiver, while older, is fine...nice, even...and I only need it for audio.

So, I want an HDMI hub with 4 or 5 inputs, and that splits the audio out to toslink or digital out...I have found some, but each has sketchy reviews...does anyone have any decent experience with one or am I gonna have to suck it up and buy a receiver?

I bought one receiver, a nice Pioneer, but the video would cut out now and then, even with the finest cabling, so I returned it...it was a Pioneer 1021, decent rig...so I went back to my Sony, which works fine in 5.1, I'll just need to upgrade when I wanna go to 7.2, which I pre-wired my walls for.

Yes, I am in the same boat. There are expensive hubs and I am not sure if they are any better than the cheaper ones. Here is a great place to get them from though.

Yeah, I like monoprice, gotten a couple cables there, have looked at some hubs, may have to look again, thanks for reminding me to!

Yeah, monoprice seems good. I didnt' know about them until a local buddy of mine pointed them out to me. I bought a number of mic cables from them when I got my mics and other crap.

Much to mine and Rob's amazement, the cables were 16 gauge. Now that may be the cable as a whole, not necessarily the internal wires, but...they definitely feel stiffer than the usual 24 gauge cables. Good prices too, cept the shipping charge brought them up a smidge higher than say, Zzounds or Sweetwater. But yeah, they feel pretty solid to me.

They seem to deal primarily in media components rather than "pro audio" so they ought ta have a hub for a reasonable amount I would think.

I may just end up buying a new receiver...I now know a neighbor is looking for an inexpensive receiver, and on eBay I found some exact matches to my current 5.1 speaker satellites, so I could have 7 and be ready for 7.2 after I finish the two subs I am working on...so I may be able to sell my receiver and upgrade to 7.x...sweet.

I just said ghell with it and got a receiver, a Sony STR-DH720 (or something like that) thus far it's proven pretty darn good...time will tell, but I've been using it a bit today, and will be tonight watching cheesy SyFy movies...but as of right now, darn nice features and darn nice sound!

What a disaster this is proving to be...honestly, I think the blame is on my cable providers signal, but even this new receiver is having dropouts of audio and video...it doesn't happen with the cable box going directly to the TV (little glitches now and then though) but as soon as I run it through anything like a router or splitter like a receiver it starts, even with the best of cables...so, for now I am returning the second receiver I've tried and just going back to Monoprice to get a toslink cable to use the TV's ARC channel to run an optical signal back to the receiver...we'll see if that works.

Monoprice's prices are pretty awesome...

Man this is getting frustrating, Monday I am yelling at my cable provider, their system does suck, but I know they are changing third party providers soon so I have been sucking it up...time to start complaining.

Wow, that would be frustrating. I wonder if it is some sort of scrambler. Like in the old days when you couldn't connect a VCR to record pay tv. Seems odd that you cannot split the signal. Running through a receiver should not degrade the signal. If anything you would think it would boost it. I wonder if you need to boost the signal before it hits the receiver??

It is frustrating...but I know, right now our cable providers service sucks...well, doesn't "suck" but has it's issues...I've been kinda sucking it up because I know through inside channels they signed a contract with a new provider and are now testing and close to implementing the new system, so I have been holding out waiting...once I get that perhaps I'll try again...until then, the signal from the cable box to the TV via HDMI is good, so I will use the loopback channel to run optical from the TV back to the receiver and see how that works...like you, I suspect it's a weak signal...maybe the TV will work resending JUST the audio.

It'll limit me to 5.2, but that's OK for now, I am wired and waiting for 7.2...but hardly NEED it, so my wife, and my checkbook, will appreciate me waiting. :-)
