Adding a compressor to a Behringer 1280S powered mixer

Hi
I have a Behringer 1280s Powered mixer for a 3 piece band.
3 mics are run through the mixer and occassionaly bass and kick depending on the situation. There are no in-line channel inserts to take to a compressor. Can I use the FX out - a mono jack plug disengages the on board effects and a stereo jack allows them to run in parallel, or am I wasting time with this setup?

You can run the signal to the compressor first. Then take the out of the compressor and run that into the board. As long as your compressor has some sort of make up gain, and has the ability to accept mic and line level signals. You should be fine.

Hi Rob - thanks for the advice - I'll check the targetted compressor to see if it meets these requirements. Looking at the Behringer MDX2600 as I can get it for a good price, but open if needs dictate.
