Daisy Chain or ADAT Lightpipe?

In order to increase inputs is it better to daisy chain 2 of the same units together? Or use ADAT and connect 1 dedicated audio interface to say an additional 8 pre only? I've never used ADAT in the past. Does either option have an advantage in terms of latency? Stability? Ease of set-up and use?

I'm rethinking my whole set up and pretty sure I may have made some non-forward thinking purchases in the past. Would like to correct it before going to far down the road.

Would like to be able to record up to 16 channels at the same time. Any advice, as always, is much appreciated.
