So, I just finished up three of the most grueling days of the WXPN festival. Temperatures were 109 on the first day, 105 the next, and 98 with rain today. Anyhow......... I did get some of the best mixes there. And the radio station was filming some of my mixes. Not with the best equipment mind you. They were using those little Flip recorders. It just gives you the idea.

Still....... I had fun! :)

This drummer broke two kick drums, and a snare! anyone want to guess how? :)

The video above was kind of my mix. They had their own engineer, a person I know rather well. But, all he did was push the faders up! It was all of my EQ, gates, comps, the works. So, it might as well be mine. :)

But what a line up! Tommy Conwell, David Uosikkien (Drummer for the Hooters) Rob Hyman (Also of the Hooters) Jay Davidson ( of Cinderella, and the Heartbreaks) Richard Bush ( Of the A's) Cliff Hill (a big time Philly sessions guy) Steve Butler.

What a SHOW!!!! :)

She was great! Dar Williams has some great hits. Sorry to say, this is not the one that I like all that much.

Looks good. What rig were you using for the front end?

That was the Nexo Geo S 805 rig with the Nexo CD 12 subs. I also had a clocked PM5D for the FOH desk with the Ethersound card to feed the Nexo 242 processor.

Do you like the sound of line arrays as opposed to a 3 way system or do they sound the same?

For us, it's about application. The weight and coverage of the Nexo was perfect for the spot. Since the fly points of the stage could only handle 1000 lbs per side. with 6 subs, and 8 805's a side, plus two motors. Is all about the points could hold.

The sound is close to the same. But, a line array is not able to get as loud as a point source system. I was running about 109 to 112 dB with the Nexo. And this was measured at about 60' back from the stage. Our Turbosound Aspect would have been at about 125 to 130 dB with the same number of boxes, at the same distance. But, the coverage would have been slightly less. 75 degrees as opposed to 120 degrees.

The Nexo line array does offer a lot of advantages over a point source system. Such as low noise from behind the PA. Low weight, cardioid subs, (Straight out of the box with no other positioning or realignment of additional subs.) Wide dispersion, and the general flat sound of the box. You do lose a lot of SPL due to the nature of a line array.

I do like to use both. But, for this festival, I do believe that the Nexo was the best choice.

Do you normally work in mono or stereo or does this change with the event?

Normal for us is Stereo tops, mono bass. And we do this for all of our events.
