Just started to mix a friends band that I tracked a week or so ago and was looking for some critiques/advice on my progress thus far. The song is REALLY short compared to most everything typically posted here so it won't take up too much of your time!

It's unmastered and I'm pretty happy with it thus far but surely there's always room for improvement. Suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help!

Jun 19, 2011 09:59 pm Yeah it sounds like it just might need that last bit of mastering, if ur going to bypass taht then the drums might be a bit loud, or atleast their a bit forward. All together it sounds fine and good but seems like the mastering could probably balance out the guitars and drums iwth that final bit of compression, could do that urself.
Question though, if its not mastered (im presuming no outbus compression) y is the waveform so big? ever have any problems with that?
Jun 19, 2011 10:44 pm I think that's just how soundcloud does stuff... it takes your waveform regardless of how large it actually is and then makes it so that your greatest volume is maxed out in size on their display... makes things look nice and pretty for users to see.
It definitely only tops out a about -3.5dB though as far as the mix is concerned, so plenty of room for mastering!

Jun 20, 2011 12:04 am then definitely might wanna balance out the drums n guitars a bit, drums have great definition and they in no way cover up the gits, but it just doesnt give that punky in ur faceness u want from guitars u know? also, the guitars sound like they get a bit louder in the second half of the song, after the little melodic break. Could be both playing together? but the second half they sound more to wat im trying to say, but even then could use just a bit power over the drums
