hardware issue

i've got:

m-audio delta 44 sound card
yorkville ysm1p monitors
yamaha mg12/4 mixer
bunch of other crap

... i've got the monitors hooked up to 1&2 outs on the delta box and the control panel 'WavOut 1/2' turned up with 1 panned totally left, and 2 panned totally right.

... the sound seems to completely bypass the control panel mixer settings. the master volume doesn't change the volume when i'm playing a tune through winamp.

also, i can't get any noise to play through from a mic through the yamaha mixer. (have the ST main outs from the yamha going to 1 and 2 ins on the delta box). i'm assuming i should be getting a ton of feedback when i turn up the mic without using headphones.

if anybody has some insight it'd be appreciated.

When you open the m-audio control panel do you see the meters move? Are the faders all the way up?
What OS are you using?
What kind of mic do you have? as in, does it need phantom power?
Bottom line... sounds like the settings in the m-audio mixer control panel are incorrect. I would focus on that.

PS - by the fact you have Yorkville monitors I'm going to guess you are Canadian - lol

thanks for replying..

i am canadian. i read about yorkvilles and where they originated at one time, somewhere around here.

the meters do move on the sound card software mixer. i mute the channel and it doesn't change anything (winamp plays through, cranked). i'm thinking now i've got to mess about in the bios as i just put in this sound card, replacing the integrated one.

i have an akg perrception 220 and another thinner one of the same brand. i hit the phantom power and now the meters move on the yamaha mixer (thank you!) but it should be blasting through the monitors i would think, with a whole lot of feedback.

how would you run headphones out of this setup? i'm thinking out of the delta box out 3.

You cant run headphones directly out of the m-audio...don't do it, you will ruin your soundcard. Plug your headphones into the mixer. Hmmm. Let me think about your routing for a minute or possibly someone else will chime in. Oh and yes, disable your onboard sound card for starters. Will have to get back to you later for any other help as I'm tied up at work right now.

Ok, here is how you should wire up your gear;

Mixer C-R OUT -> Yorkville Monitors
Mixer Group Out 1/2 -> M-Audio In 1/2
M-Audio Out 1/2 -> Mixer Channel 9/10 (you can use whatever channels you like. I just happen to pick these two)

Plug in your headphones and see if you can hear anything. Turn off your monitors until you can hear through your headphones. Otherwise you may end up with a heck of a blast coming out of your monitors.
Make sure you go to your audio properties in Windows and select M-Audio 1/2 as your playback device.
See where that gets you and update this thread

i was just going to write you to tell you i've done pretty much what you said, except i was going to write whether or not to use ST outs on the mixer to go into the Delta Ins, but you say 1-2 group and that makes sense. so if i want the channels to go into the computer to record i have to hit the 1-2 button on that particular channel...

i actually can't find my headphones, i just set up my old system after acquiring this sound card and it appears the headphones are gone. ...... and it works!

so now if i'm recording i punch up the group 1-2 master fader.

now i can't get sound from the computer to get into the monitor.

When you say you can't get sound from the computer are you talking about Winamp? If so, did you change the audio properties in the Windows control panel so that the playback device is the M-Audio 1/2? That should get the signal to the mixer. Then you should just have to raise the faders on channel 9/10 (if you used my example). If it doesn't work then you need to make a change in the M-Audio control panel

no, i got the sound through when i hit the PFL button on the 9/10 channel on the mixer.

my issue currently is that the faders on the soundcard mixer do not adjust the volume of sound. i'm going to assume it's the internal soundcard still working. here's last years tunes, all sounding like they're coming through the left speaker: www.myspace.com/dave_thomson

... got it.

had to go to the patchbay/router section in the soundcard mixer and select mixer monitor in the H/W Out 1/2 column. i'll have to figure out what that's all about some time.
