Zoom R24 bit rate with 8 ins

I'm looking at a new interface as my Phonic Firewire is up the duff (don't buy one !) and I have had the zoom R24 and the Presonus Firestudio recommended to me . The Presonus is straight forward but the Zoom has some conflicting information floating around about it .
Does anyone own and use the Zoom R24 and if so when you are recording using all 8 inputs what is the sample bit rate ? Some reviews say only 2 inputs can be used at 24 bit others say you can use all 8 and still others say you can record at a higher bit rate when streaming into a computer rather than using the unit as a stand alone. What is the truth ?
The last thing I want is to buy one that cannot support the sound quality I need while handling 8 ins .
Please any info would be appreciated.
Anyone used both the presonus and the zoom , which do you prefer ?
