Any insight would be appreciated but I was mainly wondering if it supports Logic 9, Digital Performer 7, Pro Tools 9, etc since it was discontinued.

Does it work on an Intel Mac/Snow Leopard?

Thanks.

Did you find one of those? That's one product I had not considered fora control surface, but I want one now that you point it out...

Yes, it should work. MIDI out from Mackie HUI-> Audio interface MIDI in. In ProTools there's a MIDI control language for HUI. Other DAW's should support it too, for a while.

Yeah I found one in my price range ~ $500. Other than being discontinued, it has everything that I'm looking for - motorized faders, scribble strip, talkback mic, meter birdge, transport controls, wheel, etc. I currently use a Tascam 1884 and Mackie Big Knob (for talkback only) but the lack of scribble strips is driving me crazy now that I've started recording bigger projects. A Tascam DM3200 is too big for my set up and too expensive and a C|24 is well out of my price range. There arent many mid-sized boards with all the functionality I want. I actually posted on here not too long ago to see if I was missing any.

I talked to the guy selling and he said he has a cable that goes from MIDI to USB and that's how it goes into your computer. Is this even possible? Or do I need to buy a MIDI interface too? I have an M-Audio Ultra 8r but it only has a MIDI/SPDIF input in the back - www.m-audio.com/products/...ackUltra8R.html

Not sure that would even work.

I guess they do exist - www.google.com/#sclient=p...b08790fb43c8af4

Just want to be sure it works before buying. The unit is quite a bit away from where I live so demoing it on my system is not possible.

You don't need the MIDI/USB thing unless you can't find a breakout cable for your fast track.. I think a more elegant solution would be to buy/find the MIDI breakout cable for your Fast Track. It's a db9 on one end but midi input and midi output on the breakout ends. You'll need to call M-audio (Avid) for that one.

Quincysan -
I am hoping to go take a look at that HUI on Sunday. Its far though so its one of those things where if it works, I will buy it on the spot. I plan to take my Macbook to test it out which, like my iMac, has Intels, Snow Leopard and Digital Performer 6 and Logic Pro.

Is there anything I need to d/l ahead of time that you are aware of? I.e., drivers? Or, since its MIDI, do I just plug it in with that MIDI to USB cable and use DP and LogicPro to try and find it?

Regardless, if I do get it, I will plan on ordering that cable you suggested.

Thanks man. If I end up getting it, I'll be sure to let you know once I get it hooked up.

If you can get the breakout cable you should be fine. I'd call M-audio/Avid to make sure they have them first, I spent a couple minutes looking online and didn't see anything from other retailers...so it may be a tough piece to locate.

It should just be MIDI speaking the HUI language to your DAW; no drivers necessary as far as I can tell.

I've got my eye on the Mackie Baby Hui on Ebay. That's even more ideal for my situation (mobile recording rig). Thanks for the heads up and good luck with the HUI if you do end up getting one!
