I recently got a new used computer with windows xp and installed cool edit pro on it. I have a mxl microphone and a studio projects pre amp. I never had any issue recording on my old computer which was also a xp. When i record my vocals its not sounding normal it sounds distorted i tried using different microphone cables and got the same results the microphone is brand new so i dont think its that. i tried playing with the volumes in the voice recording audio and playback setting and still nothing. Im not very good with computers and knowing what it certain stuff needs to be set at or with the recording equiptment its self i just wanna get back 2 makin music, so i was wondering if anybody has any ideas on what might be the problem? If its maybe a piece of the equiptment possibly or something that needs to be set in the settings
thank you

Feb 24, 2011 05:02 pm Maybe the preamp is turned high? What is your soundcard/audio interface that you are using?

Feb 24, 2011 11:34 pm Definately need to know how the pre-amp is connected to the computer. If it is going into the mic input then you are overdriving the input because it is expected mic level not line level.

Feb 24, 2011 11:53 pm Are you going into the "line in" or "mic" on your computer? If you have a "line in" you should use that and NOT "mic"

Feb 25, 2011 11:37 am I"m not sure that there is a standard for the colors. A lot of times there is an etching on the metal beside it though. Looks like this. In this case you would want the blue one
