I am on a budget of 130 US dollars and narrowed my list to these 3 mics for recording rap & r&b vocals.
Audio Technica AT2035
AKG Perception 220
Studio Projects B1
Which one sounds best for hip-hop/R&B vocals?

Feb 09, 2011 07:15 pm Sounds like you already have something specific in mind and no one is going to be able to tell YOU what sounds good to YOU.
You are going to have to find a way to try them out and select the one that YOU like best
Feb 09, 2011 08:19 pm ^ I am leaning towards one of these 3 and out of these 3 I dont no what to decide that is why I want to hear from ppl who has tried these mics and give some feedbacks.
Like what are the pros and cons

Feb 10, 2011 05:44 am .. ok well what I am getting at is that a bull horn might be the best instrument at a given time but probably wouldn't fare well during an opera.
What are you looking for. Maybe a low pickup mic that allows you to eat it? Perhaps one that brings out the warmth in your voice. Point is, are you talking functionality like... 2 of the 3 have a -10 cut? Maybe one comes with a subscription to Sonic magazine. Point is, we have no idea what YOU like to sound like in a mic.
Oh wait, go for the B1 because I like it!

Feb 10, 2011 12:55 pm Get any one of them, use it, and if it's no good for you, keep it for others to use. Then save up to get the next one in line. If you're lucky, it will be o.k.; then, step up to a low-middle range mic . . . and so on, until you've got the real mcCoy, a Neumann or some other high-end bit of kit. also, you can familiarize yourself with just how to set up and use the mic you've got. Perhaps more importantly, though, is to get a decent pre-amp--that's probably more important than the mic.

Feb 10, 2011 02:08 pm Another thing, not to be a douche but; experience in the studio is going to make a huge difference as well. There are folks on here that could make a $100 mic sound better than me using a $1000 mic.
Feb 11, 2011 06:43 am Thx to everyone who posted. Anyone else who had experience with the mics I mentioned or someone who tried both want to share their experience or breakdown these mics for me?
