Boss BR8 Rhythm Guide Query

I would like someone to explain how to keep the drum loop in my recording. I know that the rhythm guide is its own track, but how do you master it. I start my recording and it is in perfect sync, but is not recorded when I press record and then play. Thank you, DCB II
