Hey HRC,
I've been reading threads on here for a while and finally decided to register.

A buddy and I have started jamming quite a bit and we want to dip out feet in some recording. I have been doing some research myself and there is just too much stuff to sift through.

I am looking for a basic MTR without a lot of bells and whistles. I was thinking an 8 or 16 track (depending on the price). We would just be recording for fun, but still want quality sound. That being said, the MTR needs to simultaneously record on at least 6 tracks (preferably 8) so I can mic my drums. A CD burner would be nice, but is not necessary.

I have been looking at some older boards like the Zoom MRS1266 and the Yamaha AW16G. Right now the Yamaha is at the top of my list. I would like something a little more simplistic, but cant seem to find any that record at least 6-simultaneous.

I am not really interested in working on computers. Dead set on a MTR.

Conclusion: I need a reasonably priced MTR that can record at least 6 tracks simultaneously.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a Fostex VF-160 that does exactly what you describe. Bought it on eBay for around $250. Only has two built-in preamps, but I solve that problem by running everything through a mixer and then into the Fostex. Mine has a built-in CD Burner as well. Plus, it's pretty easy to use.
