Four-track problem/help

Hi, One of the tracks on Yamaha cassette four track recorder isn't working very well. It will record sound, but is much, much quieter than the other tracks.

I bought the machine a few months ago and the track in question worked fine then, both of playback and for recording. I've played recordings I made on it when I first got the machine and the playback is fine.

Thanks.

Have you cleaned and/or demagnitized the heads? Are you using high quality, short length cassette? The shorter the playing time of the tape, generally the thicker the tape can be and the better the sound it produces.

I've cleaned teh heads and de-magnetized the heads and capstan with a wand type demagnetizer. The tapes I am using are 60 minute chrome type tapes.

Has anyone else out there had the same problem as me?

Anyone on here know how to repair this problem perhaps?

Huh, interesting...it's hard to say, it's been so long since I have dealt with tape...discussing it makes me feel young again :-)

You may just be dealing with a faulty track on the head...may require real service people. Since it's only four tracks, it's hard to simply not use that one...not sure what to suggest at this point other than bringing it to a repair dude.
